Phil Irvine

Role: Pastor

Hi my name is Phil Irvine and I’m the Pastor at Emu Plains Community Baptist Church. My family and I moved all the way from the Blue Mountains and to live in the community here in Emu Plains. Jesus said “I have come that you may have life, and have it to the full.” Sometimes we find that our lives are so full with things to do, but we don’t seem to be fulfilled. I enjoy running, spending time with my family, playing Xbox and a good coffee. But what fills my life is Jesus. If you are wanting your life full, the best it can be, why not check out Jesus and take him up on this promise?

After confronting the Priests, in Malachi 1:6-2:9, and their failure to offer correct sacrifices, God now turns to the people and confronts their failure to keep the covenant that God made with His people. When the men of Judah divorced their Jewish wives and married foreign women, they invited foreign gods into God's sanctuary. God finishes this confrontation with the charge to "be on our guard" v.15-16. What do we allow into our lives that takes us away from God, rather than growing in relationship with Him?

In this passage, we see God asking a question of the priests about where their honour and respect for Him is (v.6). The priests have allowed the people to offer sacrifices that were blind and lame and kept the best for themselves. We still face that same question in our lives. Do we give God our best or just what is left over?

Passage: Malachi 1:1-5
Series: Malachi
Duration: 31 mins 31 secs
In this passage, the people of Israel are doubting God's love for them. In v.2 they ask God, "How have you loved us?" God answers them in 3 ways: Firstly, God simply states, "I have loved you". Secondly, God reminds them that He has chosen them, and thirdly, God has blessed them.

Passage: Mark 3:13-19
Duration: 23 mins 36 secs
We see that as Jesus comes to this world, He calls His disciples to himself so that these people would be with Him and that He might send them out to preach (Mk.3:14). When we come to faith, Jesus brings us into His kingdom and into community with one another, so that we can share His love. We need to learn what it means to live as collaborators with Christ and with other believers.

Passage: Luke 4:14-30
Duration: 21 mins 57 secs
Once we become a Christian, we are part of God's kingdom here and now, but there is still a 'not yet' aspect to it. There is still sin in our lives and brokenness in the world. We have freedom, forgiveness and fullness in Christ, but are still part of a world that is fallen, failing and fractured. Jesus is the King of a kingdom that has 'come near' and one that will come in fullness when He returns. He is the in-between king, and we must learn what it means for us to live as in-betweeners in that kingdom.

Passage: Psalms 19:1-6

Even in a broken world, we can see the beauty of God everywhere, and one day He will restore all things to Himself. God invite us to share His beauty and peace with a broken world as we live as followers of Jesus.

As we start May Mission Month for 2026 and think about the question, "What does love look like?", we start by looking at Jesus and how He showed His love to us by serving and giving up His life. God calls us to have that same mindset when we relate to others.

In this passage, Paul encourages us to consider the relationship we have with God through prayer and how that should impact the way we relate to others, particularly in sharing the good news in the way we speak and the way we live.

In this passage, Paul talks about the freedom that he has in Christ and how that freedom frees him up to become all things to all people, so that he can share the gospel and see other people be saved and set free by Jesus as well.

Passage: Mark 16:1-8
Duration: 23 mins 12 secs
In this last chapter of Mark's gospel, we see the most amazing things happening. The stone is rolled away, an angel appears, Jesus' body is missing because He has risen and the call is given to His disciples, to Go and TELL.
