After confronting the Priests, in Malachi 1:6-2:9, and their failure to offer correct sacrifices, God now turns to the people and confronts their failure to keep the covenant that God made with His people. When the men of Judah divorced their Jewish wives and married foreign women, they invited foreign gods into God's sanctuary. God finishes this confrontation with the charge to "be on our guard" v.15-16. What do we allow into our lives that takes us away from God, rather than growing in relationship with Him?

The priests have allowed the people to offer sacrifices that were blind and lame and kept the best for themselves. We still face that same question in our lives. Do we give God our best or just what is left over?

In this passage, the people of Israel are doubting God's love for them. In v.2 they ask God, "How have you loved us?" God answers them in 3 ways: Firstly, God simply states, "I have loved you". Secondly, God reminds them that He has chosen them, and thirdly, God has blessed them.
