Hi my name is Phil Irvine and I’m the Pastor at Emu Plains Community Baptist Church. My family and I moved all the way from the Blue Mountains and to live in the community here in Emu Plains. Jesus said “I have come that you may have life, and have it to the full.” Sometimes we find that our lives are so full with things to do, but we don’t seem to be fulfilled. I enjoy running, spending time with my family, playing Xbox and a good coffee. But what fills my life is Jesus. If you are wanting your life full, the best it can be, why not check out Jesus and take him up on this promise?

In this passage, we see Jesus showing us what mission is like in His context. God has crossed from heaven to earth, and in doing so He crossed boundaries of race, gender, culture, sin and conflict to bring His life-transforming gift of Jesus. This is what the woman at the well experienced as she meet Jesus, the Messiah. Now He wants us to join in His mission as we too cross boundaries for the sake of the gospel.

As we think about mission, we need to make Jesus' last words to his disciples our first priority. We are to give testimony to what we have seen (Acts 1:8), we are to make disciples (Matt 28:19) of the one who sends us out, Jesus! (John 20:21)

As Jesus calls us into the mission of sharing the gospel, He wants us to be peaceful people, who share the gospel with others, looking for a person of peace who is willing to accept the message, and the messenger, and people who pray before and during the mission.

Today we remember the sacrifice that the ANZAC's made as they gave their lives so that others may have freedom and peace. Jesus said "Greater love has no one than this: than to lay down one's life for one's friends". The picture we see in the ANZAC's finds its fulfilment in Jesus, as he gives His life so that all can find freedom from their sin and everlasting peace that only He can bring.

This Easter we have remembered Jesus' death on the cross and we see today the response of his disciples on resurrection Sunday. Firstly they seek him, as they go to the grave. It is here that Jesus reveals himself first to the two Marys and then to the disciples. Once they find him they worship him, and then after their worship, they obey him. The same call is placed on all of Jesus' disciples today, to seek, worship and obey the risen Saviour.

We all have a choice. Are we going to listen to Jesus or are we going to listen to ourselves and follow our own kingdom? It is easy to travel the wide road, like the majority of people, but trusting in Jesus will lead you down the narrow path to eternal life. God's kingdom is not one of rules and rituals but it is a relationship with Jesus. We hear the words of Jesus and then we are to do the words of Jesus. We do this, not to be saved, but because we are saved. Because we have come into a relationship with Jesus Christ, we follow that through action.
