Role: Pastor

Hi my name is Phil Irvine and I’m the Pastor at Emu Plains Community Baptist Church. My family and I moved all the way from the Blue Mountains and to live in the community here in Emu Plains. Jesus said “I have come that you may have life, and have it to the full.” Sometimes we find that our lives are so full with things to do, but we don’t seem to be fulfilled. I enjoy running, spending time with my family, playing Xbox and a good coffee. But what fills my life is Jesus. If you are wanting your life full, the best it can be, why not check out Jesus and take him up on this promise?

In this passage, Jesus asks His disciples who they thought He was. Is this still a relevant question for today? Absolutely! It is not about what other people say, it is about who we say Jesus is. We can have the head knowledge to know who Jesus is, but do we have the heart to follow Him in all of life's circumstances we face. We need to deny ourselves and align our lives with Jesus Christ.

Jesus taught in parables so that those who believed in Him could understand the Kingdom of Heaven. Those whi did not believe would not understand. The parable of the sower is not about the amount of seed that was scattered, but where it landed. The entry point for becoming a Christian is to hear the good news about Jesus Christ. As God's kingdom grows in this world there will be opposition. Despite Satan's influence, God's ultimate plan for this world will not fail - the division of true believers from those who do not believe. What is it in your life that stops you from fixing your eye on Jesus?

Jesus in turn elects to challenge there own believe and faith by aligning the story of Jonah with his own death and resurrection. Jesus wants to be our heart's desire. Where do you store your treasure? Jesus tells us that storing up treasures on earth will enslave our heart, mind and will and miss out on the opportunities that Jesus has planned for us. If we seek material things, we stumble in darkness. Our treasures ought to be used for God's glory.

Jesus is the King - the Lord of us all. In this passage John's message to the people is one of judgement and encouraging them to repent of their sins and be living for God and not themselves. The people needed to be ready for what Jesus had to say as he commenced His on earth ministry. Today, we need to be ready for the return of Jesus. When we trust in Jesus we are born again and baptised by the Holy Spirit. Does your daily life reflect a repented sinner and show full trust in Jesus?

We face all type of trials as we live through life. When life comes against us we need to have a firm foundation, one that is based on on the words of Jesus. Jesus tells us that we have the choice of wether to walk with Him or to go our own way. Which way are you walking and is it on the narrow path to eternal life, bearing good fruit as you witness to others? If we want to hear Jesus then we need to spend time in His word, the Bible, and then apply it to our lives. Knowing is not worth anything if we do not act on it!

Passage: John 15:1-17

We need to grow up in Christ, grow in by loving each other and grow out by bearing fruit - sharing the gospel with others. If we are not connected to Jesus, then we can do nothing in bearing fruit. How important is God in your life?

If you want to have true worship with God, then this will influence every aspect of our life. In this passage we see that we are to love others, in action, including to those outside our circle of friends. We have words and sayings that hold true in our lives. In this passage we are reminded to fix the words of God into our hearts and into our mind, but also to teach and write these words down. Just as we need to take in the word's of God, we also need to take in the word's of Jesus and allow them to shape our lives. In John 14:6, Jesus said "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
