Phil Irvine

Role: Pastor

Hi my name is Phil Irvine and I’m the new Pastor at Emu Plains Community Baptist Church. My family and I have recently moved all the way from the Blue Mountains and come to live in the community here in Emu Plains. Jesus said “I have come that you may have life, and have it to the full.” Sometimes we find that our lives are so full with things to do, but we don’t seem to be fulfilled. I enjoy running, spending time with my family, playing Xbox and a good coffee. But what fills my life, is Jesus. If you are wanting your life full, the best it can be, why not check out Jesus and take him up on this promise.

Passage: John 20:24-31
Duration: 22 mins 44 secs
In this passage we see the doubts of Thomas expressed, which Jesus is not perturbed by. We can learn from Thomas' story as he makes one of clearest and boldest statements of faith - he overcomes his doubts and believes. Jesus wants us to move from doubt to faith. Whatever stumbling block is in our way, Jesus has conquered it. Blessed are those who believe without seeing.

God's people had turned away from Him and were living in a spiritual darkness. They looked from amongest themselves for guidance in life rather than relying on God. Isaiah prophesied the coming of the Messiah, the only way our world could be saved. Jesus is the light that comes in this dark world and provides the hope of salvation to anyone who receives Him as their Saviour.

As we look forward to Christmas coming for this year we are looking at the prophecies of Isaiah that look forward to the Messiah coming. The prophecies are concerned with who He is and what He came to do. In this passage, we see the promise of the virgin conceiving and giving birth to a Son. Through this Son, fears are released and victory is won. And what does God want of us? To stand firm in our faith.

As Peter continues in his discipleship he learns a very important lesson about God's Kingdom in this passage. Jesus opened up the doors to Heaven to all people, not just Jews. By doing this he also showed that all people needed Jesus. Peter's role was to lead people through the door and lead them to Jesus, for only faith in Him is the way to God's Kingdom.

Passage: Acts 2:29-41
Duration: 19 mins 32 secs
Peter has left his fishing boat and family to follow Jesus. We see in this passage Peter declaring to the crowd that Jesus is David's promised descendant, the Messiah. Whilst some people were fearful, as they did not believe Jesus would rise from the dead, thousands of people did believe Peter's message and were baptised. The waters of baptism are a witness to others of what has already taken place in our lives and is not a requirement of salvation.
