Phil Irvine

Role: Pastor

Hi my name is Phil Irvine and I’m the new Pastor at Emu Plains Community Baptist Church. My family and I have recently moved all the way from the Blue Mountains and come to live in the community here in Emu Plains. Jesus said “I have come that you may have life, and have it to the full.” Sometimes we find that our lives are so full with things to do, but we don’t seem to be fulfilled. I enjoy running, spending time with my family, playing Xbox and a good coffee. But what fills my life, is Jesus. If you are wanting your life full, the best it can be, why not check out Jesus and take him up on this promise.

Jesus in turn elects to challenge there own believe and faith by aligning the story of Jonah with his own death and resurrection. Do you have your life focussed on Jesus?

Jesus wants to be our heart's desire. Where do you store your treasure? Jesus tells us that storing up treasures on earth will enslave our heart, mind and will and miss out on the opportunities that Jesus has planned for us. If we seek material things, we stumble in darkness. Our treasures ought to be used for God's glory.

Jesus is the King - the Lord of us all. In this passage John's message to the people is one of judgement and encouraging them to repent of their sins and be living for God and not themselves. The people needed to be ready for what Jesus had to say as he commenced His on earth ministry. Today, we need to be ready for the return of Jesus. When we trust in Jesus we are born again and baptised by the Holy Spirit. Does your daily life reflect a repented sinner and show full trust in Jesus?

We face all type of trials as we live through life. When life comes against us we need to have a firm foundation, one that is based on on the words of Jesus. Jesus tells us that we have the choice of wether to walk with Him or to go our own way. Which way are you walking and is it on the narrow path to eternal life, bearing good fruit as you witness to others? If we want to hear Jesus then we need to spend time in His word, the Bible, and then apply it to our lives. Knowing is not worth anything if we do not act on it!

We need to grow up in Christ, grow in by loving each other and grow out by bearing fruit - sharing the gospel with others. If we are not connected to Jesus, then we can do nothing in bearing fruit. How important is God in your life?

If you want to have true worship with God, then this will influence every aspect of our life. In this passage we see that we are to love others, in action, including to those outside our circle of friends. We also need to work with each other as we look to serve God and we need to equip and encourage each other so that we can lead others to Jesus.

We have words and sayings that hold true in our lives. In this passage we are reminded to fix the words of God into our hearts and into our mind, but also to teach and write these words down. Just as we need to take in the word's of God, we also need to take in the word's of Jesus and allow them to shape our lives. In John 14:6, Jesus said "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

In this passage we see evidence of spirtitual exhaustion - lack of faith, grumbing, bitterness and not listening to God. Following Jesus can be hard as our thoughts and beliefs do not align with the values of this world. We need to grow through the discipline and hardships we face making every effort to live in peace, striving to be holy and living the way Jesus wants us to live. What can you be sure of in your life? As Christians, the only sure thing that we can be certain of is the Kingdom of Heaven and an eternal life with God.

The writer of Hebrews in this passage is encouraging the early Christians not to give up in their way of life but to continue to persevere in their Christian journey. If we want to be encouraged in our Christian faith, we need to focus on those who have gone before us who served God and how they can be examples for us to follow. We also need to examine our own lives to identify and deal with the things that hamper us from having a proper relationship with Jesus. We need to look to Jesus as the ultimate example to follow as we live our daily lives and to have faith and trust in Him in all that we do.
