Role: Pastor |
Hi my name is Phil Irvine and I’m the Pastor at Emu Plains Community Baptist Church. My family and I moved all the way from the Blue Mountains and to live in the community here in Emu Plains. Jesus said “I have come that you may have life, and have it to the full.” Sometimes we find that our lives are so full with things to do, but we don’t seem to be fulfilled. I enjoy running, spending time with my family, playing Xbox and a good coffee. But what fills my life is Jesus. If you are wanting your life full, the best it can be, why not check out Jesus and take him up on this promise?

In this passage, Paul is saying that we must be caring for those in the faith, but here he gives a warning about how we accept and judge others. The key verse in v.8 is "If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord". First and foremost, we belong to Jesus and it is to Him that we will have to give an account.

In this passage, Paul talks about the mystery he has already outlined in the letter, the mystery of the gospel about Jesus Christ:
Everyone needs salvation because we have all sinned.
▪ The price (or consequence) of sin is death.
▪ Jesus Christ died for our sins. He paid the price for our sin.
▪ We receive salvation and eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.
▪ Salvation through Jesus brings us into a relationship of peace with God.
Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God. Trust in Him!

In this section, we see two attributes of God coming together; His faithfulness and His righteousness. God is faithful in wanting all people to come to Him and be saved, but He is also just and will punish people for their rejection of Him.

Jesus takes Isaiah's (61:1-2) words upon Himself. He came to proclaim the good news, bring freedom and healing and set the oppressed free. These are not just words, they are seen in His actions as well. Now Jesus gives us, the Church, that same ministry to do in His place.

As Jesus brings healing and wholeness to the people He ministered to, He does it through relationships. So too with us, we are Christ's ambassadors in this world, which means we connect with those around us as we bring the love of Jesus to them.
